Historic Downtown Dexter's Annual Fall Fest is right around the corner.
On Saturday, Oct. 12, the stretch of Stoddard Street downtown will be closed off to accommodate crafters and artists as they display their wares and talents for the annual event.
Booth fees for the festival measure eight by 24 ft. and are assigned on a first come, first paid basis. Interested parties should contact Donna West at Weber's Ben Franklin at 573-624-5141 at their earliest convenience.
The Fall Fest annually draws craftsman from a wide area to downtown Dexter. Everything from jewelry, metal art, pottery, and all types of unique and original art pieces will be on display. Many crafters will have seasonal items for both fall and Christmas.
A favorite of the festival is Tammy Clark from Dexter who will once again be demonstrating her pottery skills in front of the Metro Art Gallery.
Brian Crawford from The Loft in downtown Dexter will be demonstrating his talents in the field of scherenschnitte, an artistry involving an intricate form of paper cutting.
A quilt show, which always draws sizable crowds, will be on display at the O.A.K.S. Senior Center, and Rainbow Rentals will be on site for the children. There will also be children's games this year.
As always, local civic and church groups will have their treats on sale as well.
The Welcome Center at the railroad depot will also be open for visitors.
Harold and the Boys and the Bluegrass Review will be among the musical guests performing at Fall Fest.
Another favorite, the annual Pie Eating Contest, sponsored each year by Young Realty, will take place once again. Leslie Kyle of Young Realty is heading up that contest. Final details will be outlined in the days ahead. The Daily Statesman will let readers know who is eligible to compete and what prizes will be offered in that event. Contestants choose a charity of choice to benefit from the contest.
