Marguerite R. Burke, daughter of the late William B. Layton and Elsie Tuttle Layton, was born on April 23, 1929, in East Prairie, Mo., and died on Aug. 19, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Dexter at the age of 84.
Mrs. Burke was affiliated with the First Church of the Nazarene of Dexter and the First General Baptist Church of Dexter. She had worked as a sales clerk at Lois' Dress Shop, formerly Nina's Dress Shop, in Dexter for 30 years, and she was a resident of Dexter.
On July 23, 1946, she was united in marriage to James C. Burke in Dexter. Mr. Burke preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1993.
She is survived by one son, James W. Burke and wife, Teri, of Jackson; one daughter, Sharon M. Trammell and husband, Jay, of Dexter; one brother, Jerry D. Layton of Dexter; one sister, Francis Russell of Crystal River, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Travis L. Burke, Brian Burke, and Jared Burke.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred Layton, Bill Layton, and Harold "Bud" Layton.
Visitation will take place at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, from noon to 2 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Roger Wooten and Rev. Kenneth Biggs officiating.
Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
