SENATH, Mo. - Dunklin County Legion moved one step closer to another district title with a 6-0 win against Cape Girardeau Legion in an opening round game at the District 14 tournament Thursday night.

Tyson Campbell earned a complete-game win for Dunklin County on the hill. Campbell allowed five hits in nine innings of work. He struck out nine and walked three.

"I thought Tyson was really good tonight," Dunklin County coach Jamie Johnson said. "He located well. They've got a good hitting lineup and I thought he was in command most of the night and stayed ahead of hitters. When you do things like that our defense can handle things a little easier and overall it was a good night for him."

Campbell allowed a single hit in five different innings, but never allowed multiple hits in a frame.

Jackson vs. Sikeston Legion

No. 2 seeded Jackson Legion beat No. 3 seeded Sikeston Legion 7-1 in the other first round game Thursday.

Cody Heisserer allowed only two hits in eight innings pitched for Jackson. Heisserer struck out 17.

Jackson led 4-0 after two innings.

Chase Simmons drove home Jackson's first run in the bottom of the first inning with a sacrifice fly. Trent Wills collected an RBI on sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second inning.

Steven Porzelt finished 4 for 5 for Jackson with an RBI single in the second and sixth.

Sikeston: 15-14.

Friday's Schedule

Dunklin County (23-10) will play Jackson (36-7) in a winner's bracket game Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Senath.

"It's us and Jackson," Johnson said. "We'll see what happens. I'm sure he [Jackson coach Mark Lewis] will have a good one [pitcher] going and we'll have a good one going too. We don't know who we are going with yet, but this time of year everybody has got to be ready to go so we'll just see what happens Friday."

Cape Girardeau (19-23) will meet Sikeston (15-14) in an elimination game of the four-team double-elimination tournament Friday at 7:30 p.m.

"We played them four times and split with them," Leiser said. "We swept them at their place and they swept us at our place. We know quite a bit about them and have a good idea who they are throwing and what they are all about. They've been playing really good ball and if we don't come with our best game we'll be playing next spring I guess."
