Area plans for the Fourth of July in the area include fireworks displays in Dexter, Bloomfield and at Wappapello Lake.
Dexter
The annual display at Dexter's East City Park is planned to begin at dark on the evening of Wednesday, July 3. The city traditionally holds their display one night early due to the added expense owed to pyrotechnic personnel if they have to come to the city on the holiday to conduct the display.
In the event of rain on Wednesday, Dexter will hold their fireworks show on Friday, July 5.
Bloomfield
Bloomfield's fireworks display will take place shortly after dark on the holiday, Thursday, July 4, at Bloomfield City Park.
Bloomfield's display is conducted and sponsored by the city's Firefighter's Association. With no government funding, the display takes place solely through private donations. The 2012 display, which lasted about one hour, came at a cost of about $4,000. The Bloomfield Firefighters Association is hoping to raise at least that amount for this year's show.
Wappapello Lake
At Wappapello Lake, Independence Day activities will take place on Saturday, July 6 in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Annual Ranger Willie B. Safe's Wet 'n Wild Waterfest. This free event is co-sponsored with the SEMO Regional Water Safety Council and is held at Redman Creek Beach from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. with fireworks at dusk.
Day use fees will be waived at the Redman Creek Beach for the event. Concessions will be provided by the Wappapello Volunteer Fire Dept.
A schedule for the day's events at the lake may be found on page five of today's paper.
