June flooding has caused more than one problem in the Advance area.
On June 1, the Advance Community Library was set to host 3 local authors in the morning and a children's summer reading program in the afternoon.
As rain poured down and the creeks began to rise, Marble Hill authors Bill Hopkins and Sharon Hopkins called to recommend that the day's activities be rescheduled to a more dry time. Wayne County author Margaret (Pat) Nelson had similar obstacles to overcome in her drive from the hills east of Advance.
"It was just too dangerous to have our authors and our children out on the highways that Saturday," said library president Cara Mayberry. "There were other summer reading programs on June 15, June 29, July 13, July 27 and August 3, so we had plenty of other opportunities for the children."
The "Meet the Author" program has been rescheduled to 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, and book enthusiasts may have a special treat in store, as a fourth author has signed up to be a part of this library extravaganza. Rumor has it that this author rode a horse through the area on June 8, 2013, as a part of the Crowley's Ridge Wagon Trail Ride. The author just might be the grandson of a famous western film star.
