NEW MADRID -- Two people died in accidents in Southeast Missouri over the recent weekend. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at 10:20 p.m. Sunday on Highway 61, two miles north of New Madrid, Noah A. NEW MADRID -- Two people died in accidents in Southeast Missouri over the recent weekend.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at 10:20 p.m. Sunday on Highway 61, two miles north of New Madrid, Noah A. Sprouse, 16, of New Madrid, was driving southbound when his pickup crossed the centerline. Sprouse's truck then struck head-on a northbound vehicle driven by Kenneth D. Robinson, 34, of Lilbourn.

Angel L. Ray, 40, of New Madrid, who was a passenger in Robinson's vehicle, was pronounced dead at 11:22 p.m. Sunday by New Madrid County Coroner George DeLisle.

Robinson received serious injuries in the collision. He was taken by Air Evac to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Sprouse had minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

At 5:55 p.m. Saturday, on County Road 344, two miles southeast of Hayti, a vehicle driven by Brittany R. Travis, 16, of Caruthersville was traveling eastbound when it went off the left side of the road. According to the Patrol's report, Travis overcorrected, causing the vehicle to run off the right side of the road and overturn. Travis was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Pemiscot County Coroner Tim Brimhall at 6:15 p.m.

Seriously injured in the accident was Whitney Bishop, 16, of Caruthersville. She was taken by ambulance to the Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital in Hayti.

Neither of those killed were wearing seat belts.
