George W. Woodruff, the son of the late Grigg and Nora Norwood Woodruff, was born in Parma on March 27, 1912, and died at Cypress Point Healthcare in Dexter on June 16, 2013, at the age of 101. George W. Woodruff, the son of the late Grigg and Nora Norwood Woodruff, was born in Parma on March 27, 1912, and died at Cypress Point Healthcare in Dexter on June 16, 2013, at the age of 101.

He had lived in Essex before moving to Dexter in 1937. He had worked for many years at Coffey and Camp Lumber Company and later was self-employed. He was a member of the Second General Baptist Church in Dexter.

On Oct. 20, 1934, he was married to Mary Alma Woodruff in Essex. She preceded him in death on Oct. 6, 2008.

Surviving are one son, Gene Woodruff of Dexter; one niece, Marilyn Grubbs of Dexter; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruby Lee of Phoenix, Ariz. Other relatives and many friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jerry L. Woodruff; two brothers, Gratton and Hershall Woodruff; and three sisters, Beatrice, Alma, and Alta Woodruff.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday June 19, 2013, at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at the Essex Cemetery in Essex with the Rev. John Armbruster of Sikeston officiating.
