Two people were injured in a wreck late Sunday afternoon on US 60, one mile east of Dexter.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Katherine A. Gill, 66, of Bernie was westbound on Hwy. 60 when her vehicle was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by 39-year-old Charles A. Carmack of Essex. Carmack was reportedly crossing the highway from County Rd. 731 when he pulled into the path of the Gill car.

Gill's vehicle overturned and came to rest in a ditch on the north side of the highway. The Carmack vehicle came to rest facing south in the westbound lanes of the highway.

Dexter Fire Department's extrication team worked to free Gill from her overturned car. She sustained moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Carmack's injuries were also moderate, and he was taken by ambulance to Missouri Delta Hospital in Sikeston. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Gill was secured with her seat belt, the patrol stated.

The accident occurred at 5:45 p.m. Sunday. Both vehicles were deemed to be total losses.
