Heading up the Dexter High School Class of 2013 are Valedictorian Jessica Danielle Loflin and Salutatorian Ryan Joyner.
Only .54 of a point separated the two to earn the top academic spots of the graduating class.
Jessica Loflin will graduate Friday night with a grade point average of 4.267. She is the daughter of Dee Loflin and has earned several academic honors throughout her school career. Among her honors are the Spanish Award, English Award, and the Mathematics Award. She is a member of Dexter's Honor Society, and has consistently been ranked in the top 10 percent of her class. She also was selected to attend Missouri Girls State.
Jessica's activities include Foreign Language Club, Future Business Leaders of America, National Wild Turkey Federation, Student Council, National Society for High School Scholars, Crowley's Ridge Blackpowder Club, Rotary Interact, Dexter Band and JAKES.
She will be attending Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau in the fall where she has been accepted into the Jane Stephens Honors Program and plans to eventually earn a doctorate in veterinary medicine. After completing the pre-veterinary program at SEMO, she intends to apply to the Veterinary College at the University of Missouri.
Ryan Joyner, the son of Stan and Anita Joyner, graduates with an average GPA of 4.213. He also has consistently ranked in the top 10 percent of his class and is a member of the Dexter Honor Society. He also is a member of the Trig Team, and was selected to attend the United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar. He is the recipient of the Faculty Science Award, and the Faculty History Award.
Ryan is also played Bearcat football for all four years of high school, basketball for three years and was a member of the Golf Team for three years. He is a Student Council member, a member of Rotary Interact where he served as vice president, He served as freshman class president, sophomore class president and senior vice president. He has been a member of 4-H and is an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter.
Joyner has been accepted to attend the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis where he will major in mechanical engineering. His plans include flight training following USNA graduation.
