The second annual Dexter Parents As Teachers (PAT) 5k and Strollerthon will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013. This year the event will take place at Southwest Elementary School in Dexter. The morning will follow a similar schedule as last year with registration starting at 8 a.m., the 5K at 8:30, and "strollerthon" at 10 a.m.. The PAT Egg Hunt will follow the Strollerthon. The 5k walkers and runners will be completing 3.1 miles that will provide them with a "Tour of Dexter Schools." This is not a race, but a chance to be active for children with children.
The first event is a 5K Run/Walk. This is a community event with parents, grandparents, and the general public encouraged to attnd. There is no need to bring a stroller for the 5k.
"Just lace up your running or walking shoes and meet at the crayons in front of Southwest Elementary at 8:30, says organizer, Willa Fees.
The new route will have much smaller hills and will take participants around each of Dexter schools and a few nearby neighborhoods.
"Not up for a 5k (3.1 miles), but have a cute kid and a stroller?" asks Fees. "Register for the Strollerthon. Bring your decorated stroller and display it with your child during a one- mile fun walk at Southwest before the PAT egg hunt."
Spectators will be voting for the best decorated stroller and prizes awarded to the top three strollers. A new prize will be added this year -- the "Judges Choice" will be awarded by impartial judges who will choose one stroller that stands out. Each child registered in the strollerthon will receive a free book. Parents are encouraged to look to their children's favorite books for decorating inspiration. The Easter Bunny will be stoping by to check out everyone's strollers and visit with the PAT children while they hunt eggs.
All registered 5k and Strollerthon participants will receive a t-shirt, swag bag, water and refreshments with their $20 registration.
Copies of the flyer/registration form are available at the Chamber of Commerce website (www.dexterchamber.com) or on the bookcase at Southwest Elementary School. Completed registration forms and fees should be turned in by Friday, March 8, 2013 to guarantee a T-shirt on race day. Extra shirts will be available in limited sizes on race day.
