John David Surber, son of the late Henry and Thelma Hancock Surber, was born in Mingo, Mo., March 23, 1935, and died at his residence in Poplar Bluff on Jan. 8, 2013, at the age of 77.
He had lived in California, Washington D.C., and Missouri. He worked as a newspaper printer for the St. Louis Post Dispatch, was of the Baptist faith and loved to fish, hunt, and play pool and card games.
Surviving are three sons, Jocko Surber of Dallas, Texas, Telly Surber and Tike Surber, both of Shawnee, Kan.; two brothers, Clayton Surber of Indianapolis, Ind., and Harrison Surber of Little Rock, Ark.; and one sister, Lena Kline of Poplar Bluff. Other relatives and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Loretta Surber.
A memorial service is planned for a later date with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.
