Local police confirmed Wedneday that the Friday death of Alan Hanner of Bloomfield has been ruled as a suicide.

Assistant Police Chief Charles Sanders said Wednesday morning there was no reason to believe that anyone else was involved in the shooting death of the 44-year old whose body was found in a pickup truck parked at Dexter's West City Park on Friday afternoon, Dec. 28.

A call came into Stoddard County EMS around 12:40 p.m. Friday indicating a man was in the pickup at the park and that it was believed a gunshot was self-inflicted. The highway patrol and local police converged on the park, which was blocked off for for a time Friday afternoon.

Deputy Coroner Kenny Pope was called to the scene and pronounced Hanner dead shortly before 1 p.m.

Det. Cory Mills of the Dexter Police Dept. headed up an investigation into the death, which concluded that no one else was involved in the shooting.

A death due to suicide is not usually reported in The Daily Statesman. It was due to the fact that the death took place in a public park in the city limits that it was been reported.
