Susan Laverne Foster Darby, 62, of Malden, died Dec. 22, 2012, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis after a three year battle with ALS. She was born May, 28, 1950 in St. Louis. Susan was the loving wife of Jerry for over 41 years. They were married Aug. 21, 1971, in Poplar Bluff. Susan taught school for 31 years, 26 of which were in Malden. Susan loved life, and her family made frequent trips to Disney World where she loved being a "kid". She was a wonderful mother to her son, Jason and daughter, Michelle. Susan ministered with her husband Jerry in many local Southern Baptist Churches. She was an active basketball fan, and could always be counted on to root for her Greenwave.
One of her sorrows was that she wasn't going to get to watch her grandson Jeremiah, grow into a soccer superstar, or her granddaughter, Lexie into a beautiful young lady.
Susan is survived by her husband, Jerry of Malden; daughter Michelle and son-in-law, Scott Heck of Columbia, Mo.; son Jason and daughter-in-law, Amanda of Spring Hill, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jeremiah and Lexie, also of Spring Hill, Tenn.; her mother, Jeanne Llaunis Foster of Poplar Bluff. Mo., and sister Kathy and brother-in-law, Bob Reich of St. Louis, Mo.; and many friends. She was preceeded in death by her father, Earl Foster.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at the First Southern Baptist Church in Malden. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at the First Southern Baptist Church in Malden, with Rev. Steve Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at Elder Cemetery in Campbell, Mo. Landess Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Susan Darby Scholarship Fund a the First National Bank in Malden.
