SOS adoptions almost complete

Just a handful of families remain on The Daily Statesman's Operation Santa list this holiday season. A total of 50 families have been listed this year.

Those who have an interest in adopting one of the remaining families are asked to call The Daily Statesman at 624-4545 or come into the newspaper office at 133 S. Walnut St. in Dexter to obtain the names and further information on the family of choice. The following families remain on the list to be adopted. Included are recent adoptions.

Family 25

Young mother with five children from five to 15 recently lost her husband. The family has no current income and is living with relatives. Clothing and specific toys are listed by mother. Family also needs towels and washing machine. This is a high need family.

Employees of The Daily Statesman will provide for this family. However, additional assistance with the many immediate needs of this family will be appreciated. The family has relocated to the area due to the untimely death of the father.

Family 33

Mom works part-time. Dad, a veteran, is unemployed at this time. Two girls, six and one, are in the home, along with a boy, 8. Mom says, "Anything is appreciated," and that the baby could use 18-mo. clothing. The local VFW has graciously stepped up to help this family.

Family 37

An unemployed mother is reaching out for help this Christmas. Her eight-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son are asking for clothes and toys. The family is also requesting various household supplies.

Family 38

A mother of one from Dudley is in need of a helping hand this Christmas season. Her nine-year-old son is asking for toys, fishing supplies and any St. Louis Cardinals items. He needs clothes, and the family requests food and laundry supplies. Watkins & Sons Funeral Home employees have adopted this family.

Family 39

A single mother in Puxico is in need of help this year for her two children, a three-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl. They need clothes and have attached toy lists to their application. The family is also in need of cleaning supplies, silverware and food.

Family 40

Single mother works at a local nursing care facility. She has a 17-year-old boy who is in need of clothes and a 10-year-old girl who needs clothes and My Little Pony toys. Dexter city and rural postal carriers, along with all Dexter office personnel, have adopted this family.

Family 41

Puxico couple has two girls, 12 and 6. They request clothing and household items. Mom has included a wish list from the girls that includes specific items.

Family 43

A Puxico family lists four children at home ranging in age from eight to 18. They ask for clothing, detergent and toiletries. The father in this household works construction, but they are having a difficult time making ends meet.

Family 44

A Dexter mother has three children -- 17, 15, and 7. They ask for shoes, pants and shirts for each as well as games. Dexter city and rural postal carriers, along with all Dexter office personnel, have adopted this family, along with Family 40.

Family 47

Two boys, 9 and 6, are in need of clothing. Single father needs household items. A local woman who wishes to remain anonymous has adopted this family.

Family 49

Single Dexter mother has a five-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl. The children are in need of winter clothing, sizes 3T and 5T. Mother also requests any household cleaning items, including detergent and bath products. A local family has adopted this family in need.

Family 50

All contents of a Bernie home were lost to smoke damage in an October fire. This mother of four asks for clothing and bedding, furniture, board games, and a bat and ball for her boys. Children range from seven to 11.

This family represents the final application for the 2012 SOS program.
