A successful "re-gifting" Christmas program begun three years ago is once again scheduled this holiday season this time with a new name.
The program, sponsored by the Lighthouse Christian Center in Dexter and under the direction of Rachel Watson, has been renamed, "Manger Full of Toys."
The gift give-away project began with a little help from some friends of Watson's and a mountain of wrapping paper in 2010. Through her efforts, and those of the Lighthouse Christian Center of Dexter, the project has blossomed.
"We were able to help more than 100 families last year," Watson says. "We look for that number to perhaps double this year."
Watson and a host of volunteers have been accepting new or slightly used toys and teen gifts. Those are the only items that are involved in the "Manger Full of Toys" project. There are no clothing items, furnishings, or adult gifts available. There are no forms to fill out to qualify, Watson confirms.
The give-away event begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Lighthouse Christian Center. If anyone has items they would still like to donate, they are urged to call Watson directly at 573-624-1324.
The project is a labor of love for Watson, who sees the project not as an effort, but an opportunity. "It just a blessing from God," she says.
