BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- The race for Stoddard County's Position 1 Commissioner seat took an interesting turn Tuesday evening.

Republican candidates Steve Jordan and Danny Talkington spent the entire evening neck and neck, and the end of the night was no exception.

With all of the votes tabulated, the race came down to one single vote.

When the dust settled, Talkington was on top, 725-724 -- by a margin of 6 one-hundredths of one- percent.

County Clerk Joe Watson stated shortly after the votes were counted that he planned to take a closer look at the procedures before the evening was over.

There is not believed to be an automatic recount. Jordan could request a recount, and Watson noted that it would be granted given the close margin.

No information is known about when such a recount would take place if requested.

On the Democratic ticket, the race was more clear-cut.

Former Missouri State Highway Patrolman Dale Moreland defeated his challenger Kenneth Carney, 466-335.

Moreland will face off against Talkington in November, assuming the results remain the same.

The two are vying for the seat that will be vacated by longtime Commissioner Frank Sifford at the end of the current term.

Sifford announced his retirement at the beginning of 2012.
