BLOOMFIELD, Mo. - An Advance man charged with a March rape and abduction from a local bar is set to re-appear on May 16.

Steven Clark Rendleman, 51, has been convicted of rape twice in the past and, in 2009, pled guilty to sexual misconduct in Cape County. For the March incident, he is charged with the unclassified felonies of forcible rape with aggravating acts and forcible sodomy, the Class B felony of kidnapping, the Class C felony of felonious restraint, two counts of the Class A felony of assault of a law enforcement officer in the first degree, the Class D felony of property damage and the Class D felony of resisting arrest.

Rendleman, through his attorney, waived his preliminary hearing originally scheduled for Thursday afternoon and was bound over.

He is scheduled to appear for the first time before Presiding Judge Stephen Sharp on Wednesday, May 16.

His arrest came after officers were alerted to the potential abduction and began the investigation. Stoddard County Sheriff's Deputy Tim McCoy pulled into a rural Advance cemetery where he found Rendelman and the victim. The victim ran to the police car and a car chase ensued that involved several gun shots fired by officers. After multiple attempts to subdue Rendelman with a tazer, he eventually conceded.

Judge Joe Z. Satterfield allowed Rendelman no bond, arguing that he is a "danger to the community."

Sheriff Carl Hefner commended his officers for their hard work in what he deemed "saving that girl's life."

Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Russell Oliver announced he will seek a sentence of life without the possibility of parole, due to Rendelman's multiple prior rape convictions in Stoddard and Cape Girardeau counties.

The bar in question, Charley Brown's in Advance, has since closed its doors.
