First United Methodist Church of Dexter is spearheading a Community Food Drive "Stuff a Truck" event to be held this Saturday, March 31, to restock the shelves of the Stoddard County Gospel Mission. The mission is facing an extreme shortage of canned goods and non-perishable food items.
Several churches and organizations are participating in the county-wide effort.
Trucks will be available in the parking lots of Harps, Town & Country Super Market, USA Drug, and Dexter's WalMart store from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The local mission accommodates between 900 and 1,200 individuals each month in Stoddard County, according to Mission Director Kim Slavings.
Slavings says the pantry is especially in need of canned vegetables, rice, and beans.
