Opal "Gene" Sims, daughter of the late William Steven and Nannie Belle Farish Clay, was born in Winston County, Miss., on April 19,1925, and died at The Manor in Poplar Bluff, Mo. on March 1, 2012, at the age of 86.
Opal had been a resident Milledgeville, Ga., and moved to Dexter 35 years ago and then to Poplar Bluff seven years ago. She had been a member of the Eagles and the Spring River Eastern Star #626, and she was of the Baptist faith.
On Aug.17,1942, she was married to Haley Sims in Malden, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1977.
Surviving are two sisters, Rose Mary Roberts of Poplar Bluff, and Margaret Bailey of Milledgeville, Ga.; two brothers, Ansel Clay of Dexter and Welton Clay of Inverness, Fla. Many nieces and nephews, friends and relatives also survive.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Brooks Clay and Frank Clay; and two sisters, Mabel George and Francis Hill.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 4, 2012, after 12 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 4 , 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter.
Interment will be in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter.
