George Watson, son of the late George Eura Watson and Ruth Stanley Watson, was born on Feb. 1, 1928 in Leachville, Ark. and died early Friday morning Feb. 3, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Dexter at the age of 84.
Mr. Watson was a member of the Bernie Church of Christ for the past seven years. He served as Elder and Treasurer for many years at Parma Church of Christ. George worked for the ASCS office at Bloomfield, Mo. for approximately 30 years and was Elk Township Tax Collector for 34 years. He also farmed and raised hogs for many years. He was well known and liked by many friends and acquaintances in Stoddard County.
On March 3, 1945, he was united in marriage to Joy Ione Byrd at Paragould, Ark. Mrs. Watson survives of the home in Dexter.
Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Joe Watson and wife Sharlette of Dexter, Marty Watson of Malden, Mo.; one daughter, Kim Harrington and husband Mark of Lake Mary, Fla.; five grandchildren, Jimmy Wayne Watson of Norman, Okla., Jarrod Watson of Nashville, Tenn., Kyle Watson of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Ryan Harrington and Connor Harrington, both of Lake Mary, Fla.; also by five great-grandchildren, Adley Jo Watson and Tatum Watson, both of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Reese Watson, Rylee Watson and Luke Watson, all of Nashville, Tenn.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Watson; by three brothers, Acie Watson, Charlie Watson, and Paul Watson; also by three sisters, Ruth Watson, Dolly Plotts, and Fannie Wiltshire.
Visitation will take place at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 1 until 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2011. Funeral services will then be conducted on Monday , Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Stan Dauck officiating. Interment will follow in the Malden Memorial Park Cemetery.
