ASHERVILLE, Mo. - A Dudley man lost his life in a head-on accident on Rt. J Sunday afternoon.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 58-year-old August J. Scherer was westbound when his 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle crossed the center line and struck an eastbound 2003 Ford driven by 84-year-old Georgia A. Graves, of Dexter.
The accident occurred at about 1 p.m. Sunday. Scherer was airlifted from the scene of the wreck to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, where he was pronounced dead just before 3 p.m.
Graves sustained moderate injuries in the accident and was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for treatment. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck, the patrol states.
Scherer's death marks the second fatality in Troop E for the new year. A 28-year-old Cape Girardeau man, Derick Bramlett, died late Saturday night when the ATV he was driving left a county road near Marble Hill, overturned and ejected Bramlett. He died a Cape Girardeau hospital shortly after midnight.
