PUXICO, Mo. - A Thursday afternoon crash left a Puxico man dead and one woman seriously injured. A Parma woman died in another wreck near Bernie.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on County Rd. 271 approximately four miles east of Puxico.

The report states that a 1987 Ford driven by 20-year-old Joseph D. Wiley of Puxico, ran off the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned. One of the passengers, 24-year-old John Wiley of Puxico, was partially ejected from the vehicle and died in the crash.

Lorrie Wiley, 24, also of Puxico, sustained serious injuries and, as a result, was airlifted from the scene to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

None of the individuals in the crash were wearing seat belts, according to the crash report.

Another crash took place late Thursday afternoon four miles east of Bernie on Hwy. Z.

The crash occurred at 5:30 p.m. when a 2000 Chevrolet driven by 72-year-old Marilou Payne of Parma slid off the roadway and struck a ditch, ejecting the driver.

Payne sustained serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene of the accident to Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, Tenn. where she later died.

The report states she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
