It was learned late Monday that Stoddard County Gospel Mission Director, Kim Slavings was taken by ambulance from the Mission just after 5 p.m. Monday after collapsing at her workplace.

According to Slavings' husband, Robert, his wife collapsed at the mission and soon after ceased breathing. Ambulance crews revived her at the scene. She is in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Slavings said doctors should be providing the family with a definitive prognosis on Wednesday, following an innovative 48-hour treatment designed for patients who have been oxygen-deprived for any length of time.

Slavings said the family appreciates all the calls of concern and prayers for his wife, adding in a Tuesday morning phone interview, "Right now, that's what we need more than anything from the community is prayer."
