Earl Ray Halterman, 81 died at John J. Pershing V.A. Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo., on Sunday July 31, 2011

Born March 5, 1930 in New Madrid to the late George and Maggie Mae Odell Halterman, he was a member of the Church of Christ Dexter, had been a millwright for Coupples Manufacturing in St. Louis, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the ship AV13 during the Korean War. On June 10, 1952 he married Anna Fulkerson Halterman who preceded him in death on March 12, 2009. On Sept. 5, 2009 he married Ruth Ervin who survives of the home.

Survivors include two sons Earl Wayne Halterman of St. Louis and James Wendell Halterman of Essex; two daughters, Regina Halterman of Sikeston and Iris Elaine Halterman of Essex; one brother and sister-in-law, Floyd Halterman of Mountain Home, Ark.; one sister, Dorothy Morrision of Lilbourn, Mo.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers; one sister; and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, from 5-8 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.

Visitation will also be held on Thursday Aug. 4, 2011, at Church of Christ in Dexter from 10 until time of services at 1 p.m. Kyle Carter, minister Advance Church of Christ will officiate.

Interment will follow in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield with full military honors.
