Dexter wrestling team takes 8th at Tiger Classic

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Dexter varsity wrestling team finished eighth overall at the 16-team Tiger Classic at Cape Central High School Saturday.

Dexter calculated a team score of 181.5 at the two-day event. Jackson finished first with a 326.5, Northwest House Springs placed second with a 316.5, Sikeston placed third with a 217, Marquette place fourth with a 215.5, Poplar Bluff placed fifth with a 204, Union placed sixth with a 201.5, Rolla placed seventh with a 183.5, Christian County, Kentucky, placed ninth with a 178.5, Francis Howell North placed tenth with a 128, Carterville, Kentucky, placed eleventh with a 122, University City placed twelfth with a 111, New Madrid County Central placed thirteenth with a 85, Cape Central placed fourteenth with a 92, Park Hills Central placed fifteenth with a 90 and Sikeston junior varsity finished sixteenth with a 65.

Nine Dexter wrestlers finished in the top ten of their respective weight class.

Dexter's Storm Massey lost the 170-pound championship match to Jackson's Carson McCord, Dexter's Ethan Stevens lost the 182-pound championship match to Sikeston's Josh Stinnett and Dexter's Michael Hurst lost the 195-pound championship match to Poplar Bluff's Steven Haley.

Dexter's Seth Harris placed fifth in the 106-pound weight class, Dexter's Dawson Jones placed sixth in the 113-pound weight class, Dexter's Matthew Stone placed eighth in the 120-pound weight class, Dexter's Gaven White placed eighth in the 132-pound weight class, Dexter's Brandon Twomey placed sixth in the 138-pound weight class and Dexter's Cory Holland placed eighth in the 285-pound weight class.
