MALDEN - While members of Dexter High School's golf team are struggling to find their games during the early going, the Bearcats still had enough fire power to defeat the Malden Green Wave 178-213 in a duel match at the Hank Watson Municipal Golf Course in Malden Tuesday afternoon.

Dexter's Dax Demaree and Aaron Jackson, along with Malden's Kyle Block, tied for medalist honors with rounds of 43, 7-over par for nine holes. It was the first duel match of the season for the Bearcats.

"This team is shooting about 10 strokes over what last year's team was posting," Dexter coach Eric Sitze said. "We're not playing with much confidence right now, but hopefully we'll come around."

Andrew Stuever's 45 and Cory Hoffman's 47 rounded out the four scores used to post Dexter's 178 team total. Other varsity player were Megan Agey (48) and Dillon Demaree (49).

Dexter was unable to card a single birdie on the day.

A triple bogey by four of the varsity Bearcats hurt what good have been some solid rounds.

"We have a lot to work on," Sitze said. "We've got a long way to go before we can be a good golf team."

Dexter is scheduled to play a duel match at New Madrid County Central with the Eagles Thursday. The 'Cats will have a break after that match and be able to get in some practice before the Poplar Bluff Invitational April 11.
