PUXICO — The Puxico School Board quickly worked through a light agenda Thursday evening at its July meeting. Superintendent Cindy Crabb informed the board that work on the junior high roof and the district’s baseball fields will begin the week of July 19. BERNIE — The Bernie School Board accepted a bid for the tuckpointing and sealing of the annex gym, as well as approved the purchase of furniture. The board approved an $11,862.30 purchase of new office furniture. The new furniture will go in Superintendent Dustin Hicks’ office, elementary principal Tommie Ellenburg’s office and other staff. ...

BLOOMFIELD — The mayor of Dudley and a business owner from Puxico approached the Stoddard County Commissioners to request some of the county’s American Rescue Plan funds at Monday’s weekly meeting. The county was awarded $5,637,766 in ARP funds with the first half deposited into the county’s bank account in June and the remainder coming next year...

Don Cecil, 81, of Advance, passed away July 18, 2021 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born Oct. 24, 1939 in Risco, the son of Benny Edward and Ethel Mae Palmer Cecil. Don worked many years in law enforcement; he had been the city of Advance Chief of Police and a Stoddard County Deputy Sherriff. ...

Lelia Blanche Dinsmore, daughter of the late Maston Hall and Ruth Haga Hall, was born on Aug. 18, 1937, in Hopewell, Maryland, and departed this life on July 13, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Bluffs in Jefferson City at the age of 83. Mrs. Dinsmore was a former manager of the Hatfield Inn, a former director of the Dexter Chamber of Commerce, and a children’s librarian for 11 years. ...

Kenneth Lynn Sanders, son of the late Robert Wayne Sanders and Florence Mildred Swallows Sanders, was born on Oct. 5, 1954, in Detroit and departed this life on July 17, 2021, at his residence in Dexter at the age of 66.
