The 2015 "Back to School Sales Tax Holiday" will be held Aug. 6 through Aug. 9 with many county and cities opting to take part in the annual event. The Cities of Dexter, Bernie and Advance participate in the event, while Bloomfield does not. Stoddard County also does not participate, so the one-cent county sales tax will be assessed on the purchase during that time...

The police are out, and they have been out in force all summer long. Driving through Dexter during the evenings and weekends, residents have noticed an increased number of patrols, and that's what the Dexter Police Department wants. "We have people asking us, why do you have so many officers out, and I tell them it's because we're looking for intoxicated drivers," Dexter Police Lieutenant Josh Benton explained. "The idea is for people to see that and to get discouraged from driving drunk."...

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- It's been over 42 years since the log cabin at Bloomfield City Park was put into place there. It was a project of the Stoddard County Historical Society, with the late Joe Brown from Bell City heading up the effort.
