Fourteen railroad cars on a southbound Union Pacific train derailed within the city limits of Dexter at 3:20 a.m. Thursday, sending concerns initially of a possible hazardous material spill since one of the tanks held liquid petroleum gas. By NOREEN HYSLOP Managing Editor Fourteen southbound Union Pacific freight cars, including an LP gas tanker, derailed around 3 a.m. in Dexter. At 7 a.m., Dexter Police, the Dexter Fire Department, Stoddard County Sheriff's deputies and the Highway Patrol, were staged near the Tyson Foods plant on the east end of the city while UP crews and Dexter Fire Chief Don Seymore performed air level testing in the area of the derailment to determine if there was an immediate danger to area residents. ...
