The golf season is in full swing and thanks to a watering system the course at Hidden Trails Country Club is in great shape. Pictured above are some of the golfers who took part in Thursday's Men's Association scramble. The weekly event draws between 50 to 75 golfers and helps raise money for the Men's Association which in turn helps funds different projects at the course. ...

Proposed farm bill would end direct payment; provide no safety net

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. -- Changes to some USDA programs outlined in the farm bill now on the floor of the U.S. Senate may leave some Southeast Missouri farmers without a safety net. The half-trillion-dollar Agriculture Reform, Food and Jobs Act of 2012 seeks to save $23 billion in part by ending direct payments to farmers and modifying crop insurance programs.
