BERNIE, Mo. - The Bernie Board of Aldermen approved liquor permit renewals for four businesses inside the city at their regular meeting Monday night. The city must renew these permits on an annual basis. There was no opposition present at the meeting and all four businesses had representatives present. Gov. Jay Nixon took time during his Dexter visit on Tuesday to visit with emergency responders at the Stoddard County Ambulance District building on Business 60. Nixon praised the work of the local ambulance district in responding to the May 2011 EF5 tornado that ripped through the city of Joplin, Mo. BERNIE, Mo. -- The Hayti Indians boys basketball team ran into a buzzsaw when it visited the state-ranked Bernie Mules Tuesday night. Bernie outscored Hayti in every quarter on its way to a convincing 71-43 win. "I'm real proud of our team tonight," Bernie coach Brad Botsch said. "Hayti is coming off the Bootheel Conference Championship and we really stepped up and played well. We've faced some adversity lately, and our kids really bought in and stepped up."...

Patricia Underwood, daughter of the late Clayton Otis Glenn and Wilma Ellis, was born Oct. 3, 1941, in Essex, Mo., and died Feb. 1, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Bloomfield, Mo., at the age of 70. Mrs. Underwood was a resident of Bloomfield and was retired from Elder Manufacturing. ...
