Marlin J. Strickland, 86, of Gipsy, died Aug. 5, 2015, at the John J. Pershing VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff. He was born March 13, 1929, at Laurel, Miss., the son of Ethal and Martha Simpson Strickland.
Marlin was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He had worked for Superior Electric in Cape Girardeau for over 30 years. He had also worked as a saw miller and farmer. He gave his life to the Lord in 2014.
Marlin and Nora Lene Porter were united in marriage on July 3, 1954 at Marble Hill and she survives.
Survivors include his wife, Nora Strickland; three sons, Jackie Strickland of Advance, Jimmy Strickland of Bloomfield and Timothy Strickland of Gipsy; four daughters, Janice Jordan of Morehouse, Pamela Gray of Canton, Linda Backfish of Benton and Sheila Walk of McGee; two sisters, Georgia Lee Reasoner and Ethel "Peewee" Smith, both of Moss Point, Miss.; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Strickland; his parents, one brother, five sisters and two grandsons.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will be held at Berrong Cemetery near Gipsy, with full military rites.
