Karen Sue Miller, daughter of the late Robert Dee Mann and Geneva Thrower Mann Robinson, was born on Sept. 28, 1943, in Poplar Bluff and died on Nov. 9, 2015, at her residence near Dexter at the age of 72.
Mrs. Miller was a member of the United Methodist Church in Essex. She graduated from Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff in 1982 with an associate's degree in Nursing and then later graduated with a Bachelor of science degree in Nursing from Webster University in St. Louis. She continued her education at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky., and graduated with a Masters of science degree in Nursing in 1994. Prior to her disability, she worked as a registered nurse in the Cardiac Care Unit and the Cardiac Rehab Center at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was instrumental in forming the Cardiac Rehab Center at Southeast Hospital in Dexter in June of 1997. She was honored as Who's Who in American Nursing and among Young Professionals. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader, she served as President of the Cotton Boll Area Girl Scouts Council from 1989 to 1996 and was a Girl Scout Thanks Badge Recipient. She also was a member of the Girl Scouts of the USA National Staff and a delegate to the National Girl Scouts Council Session. She and her husband were founding members of the Dexter Chapter of the Missouri State Young Farmers Association and she served as State Vice President from 1974 to 1975.
On Nov. 22, 1962, she was united in marriage to James L. Miller in Dexter. Mr. Miller survives of their home near Dexter.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, James Keith Miller and wife, Pam of Essex; one daughter, Lori Ann Schiller and husband, Eric of Nashville, Tenn.; one grandson, Landon Miller and wife, Ashley; one anticipated soon great-grandson, Levi James Miller; one sister-in-law, Judy Mann of Phoenix, Ariz.; three nieces and five nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Mann and her step-father, Chester Robinson.
Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Roy Sherfield and Rev. James Malloy officiating. Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery.
