Arthur J. "A.J." Miller, son of the late Sereno W. and Catherine Halter Miller, was born in New Hamburg, Mo., on Feb. 29, 1928, and died at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau on July 5, 2012, at the age of 84. He had grown up in Chaffee, Mo., and had lived in California, Washington state, and Chicago before moving to Bloomfield 12 years ago...

Arthur J. "A.J." Miller, son of the late Sereno W. and Catherine Halter Miller, was born in New Hamburg, Mo., on Feb. 29, 1928, and died at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau on July 5, 2012, at the age of 84.

He had grown up in Chaffee, Mo., and had lived in California, Washington state, and Chicago before moving to Bloomfield 12 years ago.

He worked as an electrical technician with Motorola. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter.

A.J. enjoyed racing remote control boats, fishing, and model trains. He served in the U.S. Army -- in Italy after WWII and in Korea.

In Oct. of 1970, he was married to Helen Fox in Chicago, Ill. She preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 2010.

Surviving are two stepsons, Michael Lee Hasler of San Antonio, Texas, and Kenneth Lynn Hasler of Oswego, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Linda Handel of Henderson-ville, N.C.; four step- grandchildren; five step- great-grandchildren; one brother, James Miller of Seattle, Wash.; and one sister, Betty Enderle of Kelso, Mo. Other family and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother, Leon W. Miller.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 8, 2012, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Rosary services will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter with the Rev. David Dohogne of Dexter officiating.

Interment will follow at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
