A Poplar Bluff man sits in the Butler County jail after he allegedly robbed Walgreens last month.

Ronnell D. Murphy, 30, of the 700 block of Davis Street is charged with the Class A felony of first-degree robbery in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred at the pharmacy on May 21.

According to the probable cause statement filed by Poplar Bluff Police Department Patrolman Jeremy Elless, Murphy allegedly requested a BB gun — which appeared to be a real firearm — from another person while in Walgreens and in the presence of employees.

Murphy then allegedly threatened to kill an employee of the store if she contacted the police. Witnesses report he told the employee he was going to take items from the store. Murphy is then accused of bagging up numerous items from the store totaling $897.97 in value and then leaving the pharmacy with the merchandise.

Murphy was contacted outside of the store by law enforcement, according to reports. Officers say he admitted to having knowledge of the BB gun being in a bag of stolen merchandise. Information regarding what was allegedly taken was not available at press time.

Murphy currently is being held at the Butler County jail on $30,000 bond. He made his initial court appearance last Thursday at the Butler County Courthouse.
