The 2024 Kyle Smith Memorial Athletic Scholarship was awarded to Abbie Lloyd on Thursday at Dexter High School.

Lloyd excelled in DHS varsity high school basketball, cross country and track. The following highlights her athletic accomplishments:

• DHS varsity basketball point guard

• DHS cross country state qualifier three times

• DHS track and field sixth place State finish (pole vault) in 23’

• Current DHS pole vault record holder

• MSHSSA state qualifier seven times

Lloyd is a member of the National Honor Society, National Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America regional officer.

Smith was a great sports reporter for the Dexter Statesman and Semoball, presenters shared. Smith loved high school sports, Diet Mountain Dew and Skittles.

“He loved writing about athletes who impressed him with their talents,’ said ShowMe Times reporter Dee Loflin in a written statement.

No doubt about it, Smith would have been very impressed by Lloyd, presenters shared.

Lloyd is the third recipient of the scholarship. John Nimmo (Bernie-basketball) received the first scholarship May 18, 2022. Cole Nichols (Dexter-basketball) received the scholarship last year.
