BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- A Catron man accused of murdering his son in May will have a preliminary hearing on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012.

Charles C. Goforth, 40, of Catron, was arrested early Saturday, May 5, 2012, and charged with the Class A felony of second degree murder and the unclassified felony of armed criminal action.

The hearing has been previously postponed while reports were awaited from various agencies.

Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner reported the shooting occured shortly after 5 a.m. on Saturday, May 5.

The victim, 20-year-old Patrick Goforth, reportedly died from a single gunshot wound to the head. The shooting is reported to have taken place at the home of the elder Goforth.

No information has been released regarding the events that led to the shooting.

The Major Case Squad was activated early on the morning of the incident, and used the Bernie Police Department as a command center during the investigation.

Goforth remains in the Stoddard County Jail at this time under a $750,000 cash only bond.
