The Dexter School Board approved the lawn care and therapy service bids for the 2022-23 school year.
Special Services Director Jessica Lambert presented the contract to the board. Lambert said the district has contracts with Sheila Alsup, Jana Moore and Miranda Bates. The district coordinates for both physical and occupational therapy. The contract with Alsup is for physical therapy and occupational therapy for Bates and Moore.
Assistant Superintendent Gavin Miller presented the lawn care bids. The current contractor, Duley’s, asked the district to put the job up for bid due the health of a family member requiring more of his time and other jobs increasing in size. Two bids were received prior to the bid deadline and one after the deadline.
The two presented to the board were Young’s Lawn Care and Pennington Lawn Care. Miller said he spoke to the company whose bid was late and they were unable to guarantee the number of mowers available for the job.
Young’s bid $2,280 for three years and Pennington bid $2020 for years and Miller said they had plows to assist with clearing snow for the campus when needed. The board approved the bid from Pennington Lawn Care.
Superintendent’s Report
Superintendent Amy James updated the board on the COVID-19 status in the district. She said six students are quarantined with four testing positive for COVID-19. James also said one staff member has tested positive but no other staff are in quarantine.
James told the board she is meeting with Dr. Jim Welker, director of the Southeast Regional Professional Development Center, to get the process for the new district CSIP on a timeline. James also told the board that the district used three AMI (Alternate Method of Instruction) days due to recent weather. The district also had one and a half days to make up. One day was made up on Martin Luther King Day and the other half day is accounted for in the inclement weather hours the board works into the school calendar each year.
James closed her report offering special recognition to the maintenance staff. She said on a daily basis the district has multiple maintenance requests made and the staff works tirelessly regaurdless of the weather. James recognizes a different staff department at each board meeting for their work for the district and its students.
