The Dexter Board of Education accepted a letter of retirement this week from Central Elementary School principal, Cindy Bowman. Bowman has served as principal at the school for the past 12 years.
According to Supt. Dr. Thomas Sharp, Bowman is currently on administrative leave and will remain on leave through May 31, 2015, at which time she will officially retire.
Bowman has worked in the field of education for the past 31 years, 14 of which have been in the Dexter School system. She served for two years as T.S. Middle School Assistant Principal prior to being named for the principal role at Central.
Subject to board review, Sharp has assigned Central's assistant principal, Alana Dowdy, to serve as interim head principal for the duration of the 2014-15 school year.
No reason was given for the granting of administrative leave.
