The Dexter Farmers Market began in 2015 when a group of citizens sat out to create a local farm and consumer marketplace. The market continue today under the direction of the Dexter Chamber of Commerce and strives to meet the needs of its customers, while encouraging sustainable agriculture. The farmers market will have a new home in Dexter when it opens in May. The market will will now be located at East Park.
“We had over 60 vendors registered last year. The 2022 market season will be starting off in a new location. The market will now be held at the Dexter East Park, located at 998 Highway 114,” said Dexter Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Alisha Trammell. “Market will continue to be every Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Market officially starts on Thursday, May 5 and will end on Thursday, October 6. The Dexter Chamber is very grateful to the Dexter Parks and Recreation and the City of Dexter for partnering with us by allowing use of East Park for our market.”
Trammell said the decision to move came down to meeting the needs of vendors and customers.
“The decision to move the location came down to the needs of our vendors and our patrons. Moving the location to East Park will allow us to fulfill these needs by providing shade, ease of parking access, access to electricity for our vendors, and public restrooms,” said Trammell. “Our previous location was located in a parking lot in our downtown area. During the hot summer months, shade became a real need.”
Trammell said with the move to the park an addition will also come to the market. That addition is food trucks.
Trammell said the Dexter Parks and Recreation Department will be adding Food Truck Thursday to East Park. She said food trucks will be able to set up every Thursday at the park until October from sunrise to 8 p.m. Trammell said anyone wishing to set up a truck at the park should contact the Parks and Recreation Department office at 573-624-8244 for an application.
Trammell said any vendors interested in a spot at the Farmers Market can fill out an application from chamber of commerce website at: https://dexterchamber.com/farmers-market/ or stop by the Dexter Chamber of Commerce, located at 515 W. Market.
“The Dexter Farmers Market is a community-hub. We encourage our patrons to bring their children and grandchildren to market. Including the youth will teach them about where their food comes from,” said Trammell. “Our number one goal is to create a market where vendors prosper and our community thrives. It starts here locally and every single one of our vendors is local to our community. This year you will be able to stop by our Market when you are on our way to the pool or a game at the complex, making stocking up from your favorite vendors easy.”
Trammell said the market bell will ring each week ptomptly at 4 p.m. to insure an orderly and fair marketplace.
