In a world of changing technologies, few entertainment mediums remain as consistent as writing. And, while technologies may continue to develop that allow someone to have their work published, The Daily Statesman would like to lend a hand to all aspiring writers.

In an effort to help area writers hone their craft, The Daily Statesman will be hosting a writers' workshop.

The Daily Statesman has decided to host the monthly workshop -- which is scheduled to meet the third Thursday of every month, beginning July 16 -- as emerging technologies allow writers to more easily publish their work. The workshops will take place at The Daily Statesman offices unless otherwise announced from 7 until 9 p.m.

While it may be easier for aspiring writers to publish, one concern among writers is that of ability.

The Daily Statesman views a writers' workshop as an opportunity for area writers to share ideas on form and content. All styles/genres of writing will be welcome.

"We recognize that there is a continued desire among all types of people to tell their stories," Daily Statesman Editor/General Manager Noreen Hyslop said. "So, we would like to allow a regular opportunity for people to share ideas and read each other's work, as a way of helping each other improve. Iron sharpens iron."

The Daily Statesman will attempt to schedule guest speakers for each workshop, and will attempt to address as many common areas of interest as possible.

"There are many talented people in this area, and many people have good stories to tell," Hyslop commented. "Who knows what best-selling author could be living here locally?"

While the workshop will primarily focus on style and the mechanics of writing, there will also be future presentations relating to online publishing and marketing your product.

The workshop is open to anyone age 18 and older.
