BLOOMFIELD, Mo. - With Independence Day just around the corner, one Bloomfield organization is working hard to put together the annual fireworks show.
The Bloomfield Firefighters Association, established in 2012, is a non-profit organization established to support the Bloomfield firefighters and their cause.
In this case, that means helping to raise money for the annual fireworks display.
The annual display is funded entirely through private donations, which is what the organization is looking for right now.
Brooke Smith, secretary/treasurer of the organization, stated that last year's display cost approximately $4,000. While they know that may not be attainable, the goal is to collect at least $3,000.
"Any amount smaller than that and the display is pretty weak," she said. "Last year's show lasted almost an hour."
While that may not sound like a lot of money for a professional fireworks show, don't let the price be deceiving.
In an effort to save money, the City of Bloomfield (when they handled the show) paid to have Michael B. Smith trained to administer the show.
As a result, instead of paying a company to come to town with numerous employees and equipment, Smith is in charge of the show and there is no labor charge.
"All of the money goes to the cost of the fireworks," Smith said, explaining how they can put on a sizable show at a reasonable cost.
The organization has begun the process with flyers posted around town.
"With your donation and dedication to our community, we can continue this family-oriented celebration of our country's independence the way our forefathers intended," the flyer states.
The show will take place shortly after dark near the Bloomfield City Park on July 4. Parking is available at the park and around town for individuals wanting to watch the show.
Donations can be made in any amount and are tax deductible. A receipt is also available upon request.
Donation checks should be made payable to Bloomfield Firefighters Association and sent to:
