Dexter High School has always been recognized for its sports activities. Well, this year the DHS volleyball team is losing two great seniors, Alyssa Spear and Ashley Brown.
The last game was very bittersweet for these girls -- they played their hearts out and gave it their all.
Ashley Brown stated, "I played freshman, junior and senior year, and I've had the best season with these girls, and even though we didn't get as far as I would have liked to, I wouldn't trade them for the world. I love every single one of them, and I am so thankful for all the memories we've made together these last four years. It's the best season we've ever had. I'm ready to see what the future holds for me, and I am definitely ready to come back and see what they can do next year.
Ashley also credits the student section and says, "I'm so thankful for all the guys and everyone else who came to support us at home and away games. It really changes the atmosphere when we've got all of them cheering us on. It gets us pumped. Coach Morgan has taught me so so much these last two years. I have become a better player because of her. My only regret is that she wasn't here sooner. She's the best coach Dexter has ever had. She's taught us things and lessons that I'll remember and use for the rest of my life. Our team wouldn't have done as well as we have without her here. She's really turned things around for this volleyball team. I'm really going to miss playing for her."
Alyssa Spear also a member of the varsity team, is a senior. "I've played all 4 years," she says. "It was definitely bittersweet playing my last game. It was sad, but I wouldn't trade my team and the memories made for anything."
"I think having a supportive student section made a big difference in how we played," Spears added. "It made us want to play harder, and I loved playing in that atmosphere. This was definitely the best season yet, and it was sad to see it come to an end. I felt like we played more as a team this season than we have in years past. I'm going to miss my teammates, and I wish them nothing but the best in their upcoming seasons."
Team members also expressed their thanks to everyone who has supported them in the past and present. Go Bearcats!
