Authorities were summoned to the 700 block of of North Miller Street in Bloomfield on Tuesday after a 17 month old toddler was discovered unresponsive in a bathtub full of water.
According to a news release from the Director of Public Safety in Bloomfield, James D. Dew, officers on scene performed CPR until the arrival of EMS. The toddler was transported to an area hospital where despite the efforts of medical personnel, the toddler was pronounced dead.
Dew said in the release that the Stoddard County Major Case Squad was partially activated. According to Dew, detectives conducted several interviews and it was determined that the toddler had been left alone for an extended amount of time.
On Wednesday, Jodi Crum, 21 of Bloomfield, was charged with second degree manslaughter. Her bond was set at $100,000 and she is being held in the Stoddard County Jail.
An autopsy was conducted Wednesday in Farmington and the official autopsy report has not been released.
The Stoddard County Major Case Squad is made up of members from the Bloomfield Department of Public Safety, Stoddard County Sheriff’s Office, Dexter, Bernie, Puxico, and Advance Police Departments, the Stoddard County Prosecutors Office and the Stoddard County Coroner’s Office.
