Retiring barber LeRoy Hefner cuts hair for his last customer in Advance--T.J. Seger, the grandson of Manning Whitaker, who was Hefner's first customer when he came to Advance 40 years ago. Hefner has cut hair for 4 generations of customers in Advance.

Advance Community Library volunteer Diane Reeves plays an introductory song to open up the "One World, Many Stories" summer reading program on Thursday, June 2, 2011. Her helper, Neeley Bollinger (back) watches. Children participating (in random order) are Ally Jo VanGennip, Isabelle Hurd, Josh Rogers, Meg Garner, Gus Garner, Jed Garner, Samantha Hahn, and Bethany Hahn. The program takes place at 4 p.m. every Thursday until Aug. 4. There will be no program on July 7.

Junior Scout Troop 40096 is currently working on their Bronze Award, the highest award for Junior Scouts. The scouts placed two large barrels filled with flowers outside the Bloomfield Area Nutrition Center. The scouts will care for the flowers over the summer. Only a pile of debris remains of what once was a horse barn on the property of Elderland Farms just northwest of Bloomfield following the storms that ripped through the area recently. A horse was removed from the barn just before the storm hit the are near Bloomfield and was reportedly not injured. Winds that accompanied the storm were estimated to be around 70 mph and caused the most damage in the area northwest of town.

Advance Firefighters, Tim Liley and Brad Moore give kindergarten and first grade students from Advance Elementary a demonstration at the Advance First Station on Friday, April 15. Students got to see the new fire shed and
