CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - An Advance, Mo., man pleaded guilty Monday to illegally possessing a firearm.
Jerry L. Daniels, 42, pleaded guilty to one felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm before U.S. District Judge Carol E. Jackson, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Jackson set sentencing for Nov. 21, and at that time, Daniels faces a maximum of life imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.
With his plea, Daniels admitted on Nov. 29, a deputy with the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department responded to his home in regard to a report of argument between Daniels and his wife.
Daniels' wife reportedly gave the deputy a rifle, and told the officer the firearm belonged to her husband and that he had two other firearms in their home.
Daniels told the officer the firearm was his and admitted he had two other firearms in the home. The deputy then recovered the other two firearms.
Daniels had five previous felony convictions and, as a convicted felon, was prohibited from possessing firearms.
Also assisting in the investigation were agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Keith.
