The Dexter Tree Board announced yard award winners for the month of August. An award is given monthly, throughout the summer, to residents in each ward of the city.

August’s commercial winner is Robert Monroe, Edward Jones Financial Advisor. The newly repainted exterior and “tastefully kept lawn” caught the eye of the yard award judges.

David and Carlene Hartle are Ward 1 winners for August.

“You are welcomed with large pots of blooming pink petunias,” said the unanimous judges.

The judges added, “A big welcome sign is at the front door with an old metal milk can and a child’s bike are part of the decorations of this well groomed yard.”

The winning yard in Ward 2 contains, “A sea of well manicured grass surround(ing) pristine landscaping filled with boxwoods, monkey grass and other bright green foliage,” said the tree board judge.

The yard at 113 Whitman St. is highlighted by a lovely pink crape myrtle.

The “Barney house” on Vine Street is the winner of the yard award in Ward 3. This historic house features a well maintained yard with well cared for shrubs. The Ward 3 judge emphasized the “neat and clean yard.”
