The Stoddard County Major Case Squad has been activated to investigate a fire that occurred Wednesday morning, according to a news release from Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner. The Dexter Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 21036 State Highway 114 at approximately 10:34 a.m.

The Dexter Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 21036 State Highway 114 at approximately 10:34 a.m. The structure was fully and was totally destroyed.

After the fire was extinguished, the body of a deceased male subject was discovered, Hefner reported.

The Stoddard County Major Case Squad was activated and the investigation is ongoing, said Hefner.

The Stoddard County Major Case Squad consists of the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department, Dexter Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol along with the Missouri State Fire Marshall.

Authorities have not yet identified the male subject. Hefner stated in the release that an autopsy is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday morning in Farmington. The Dexter Statesman will provide further information on this story as it becomes available.
