The kindergarten classroom of Bailey Christian at Southwest Elementary in Dexter honored their very own superhero, Gavin Thompson, on Thursday, Nov. 5. The five-year-old has been battling leukemia since the start of the school year, missing one day each week for treatments in St. Louis. Through a donation of "Gavin Squad" T-shirts by Allen Christian Buick, Montgomery Bank and an anonymous donor, every student, including the honoree displaying the "U" and the "P" at left, was donned in orange to support their young friend and hero. The local school has been one of Gavin's biggest support systems throughout his treatment, thus far. Look for a feature article on Gavin's cancer journey in an upcoming issue of The Daily Statesman. Gavin is the son of Grant and Nicole Thompson of Dexter.
